It’s World Pasta Day!
Ciao amici! Today is World Pasta Day or la giornata mondiale della pasta.
In my opinion there’s no better way to celebrate any occasion than with pasta and today it’s even more appropriate.
During our time in Bologna, my oldest son became a big fan of gramigna with salsiccia, a typical type of pasta from Emilia Romagna (my friends from the region can hotly debate whether it is truly from Emilia or Romagna originally). Nonetheless, it is difficult to find in the U.S. or online.
Gramigna is a short curly pasta made with egg and is usually prepared with a sauce that involves a base of carrot, onion and celery, tomato puree (Mutti Passata, yes you will find it in your grocery store), white or red wine and pork sausage. I have linked a recipe here in Italian. Use it as a language learning exercise or translate it to get the preparation under way quicker. That is, if you’re able to find gramigna anywhere!
I happen to have one package left that came back in my suitcase and we are going to enjoy it this evening. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you celebrated today with pasta as well!
